The Toronto Youth Symphonic Brass ensembles will include trumpets, French horns, trombones, baritones, euphoniums, tubas and percussion.

An in-person audition is preferable for brass players. In the event of conflict with this date, a recorded video submission may be accepted. Percussionists will need to submit an audition video (please include a sample of snare drum, mallets, and drum set if possible). Deadline for video submission is Friday September 11th. Please contact brass@tysb.ca with any questions.

The TYSB ensembles will have limited space available. Some applicants may not be accepted.

Unsuccessful applicants will be placed on a waiting / substitution list.

Audition Requirements

1. Play a scale of your choice one octave ascending and descending (or two octaves if capable), all slurred, at a steady tempo.

2. Two short contrasting solos / studies, max. length 2-3 minutes, demonstrating range, technique, and general musicianship (accompanist not required.) For example, choose something lyrical to show your tone and something with a faster tempo showing articulation and rhythm.

Please bring 1 copy of your music for the audition panel.

3. Sight reading may be asked.

PERCUSSION APPLICANTS: Please submit a video showing something on snare drum, mallets, and drum set if you are able.

Audition fee for the 2026-2027 season is $25.
