Claude Watson School for the Arts

Founded in 1981, the Claude Watson School for the Arts is a specialized program spanning Grades 4 to 8 and is part of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). CWSA offers an enriched arts education for students within the City of Toronto who have an interest in music, drama, dance, and the visual arts. Students pursue studies in all four arts disciplines.  These programs provide students with unique opportunities to pursue their interests and develop artistic and academic excellence and leadership. Our students come from every area of the city, and we are very proud of them!

Linda Song

As a passionate artist and a dedicated educator, Linda brings various experiences into her teachings, both with children and adults at the amateur and professional levels. Linda is a Music Specialist for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and a full-time teacher at the Claude Watson School for the Arts (CWSA).  Linda is an instructor for the Vocal Music Additional Qualification (AQ) courses for Ontario school teachers, along with Early Childhood Music Education, Kodály and Orff teacher training courses. Linda has celebrated over 25 years of teaching at the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). She has been the associate conductor with the Toronto Children's Chorus (TCC) and with the Canadian Children's Opera Company (CCOC), Mississauga Children's Choir (MCC) and Learning Through the Arts (LTTA).  Linda is the co-founder and conductor of the North Toronto Songbirds.  Linda continues to give workshops and loves making music with amazing musicians.

Featuring Christopher Gongos

Associate Principal Horn, Toronto Symphony Orchestra

Christopher Gongos has been a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 1998 and currently holds the title of Associate Principal Horn. Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Mr. Gongos received his formal education at the University of Alberta where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Performance, as a student of Kay McCallister. He then pursued graduate studies at McGill University with John Zirbel, and has also studied with Philip Farkas, Michael Holtzel, and John MacDonald. He has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and a Fellow at the Tanglewood Institute.

Mr. Gongos began his professional orchestral career as Principal Horn of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. While in Kitchener he gained valuable experience in chamber music performance as a member of the Canadian Chamber Ensemble. He also served as Associate Principal Horn of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and as Second Horn of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.

Christopher Gongos continues to enrich his career by performing chamber music and contemporary music, as well as working in recording studios. He is also a dedicated teacher, with studios at the Glenn Gould School and at the University of Toronto. Many of his students have gone on to study at North America’s most prestigious music schools and have embarked on careers as professional musicians. Christopher Gongos is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
